Having stayed the night at Andy's parents house on the Wirral, we got a slightly late start walking. The tightly packed Snowdonia peaks can be walked in a single day. However, due to the number of peaks to be covered in the Mad Mountain Challenge we decided to split Snowdonia into two days, with 8 peaks scheduled for the Wednesday. We began the steep climb up Pen Y Ore with some trepidation since the weather forecast for the day was not good, however buoyed by the success of the previous three days, we set off in high spirits. As we walked, the weather began to deteriorate, the cloud closed in and the wind began to gain strength. We successfully reached the summit of three of the eight peaks we were scheduled to climb, but at the summit of Carnedd Llewlyn, we regretfully had to make the decision to turn back. The very high winds combined with driving rain made conditions too dangerous to continue with our proposed route. We had to turn back and descend by a more sheltered, shorter route to the safety of the valleys.
